Elizabeth: The Golden Age Poster

I’m always a fan of historical films; especially when they bring their stories to life and envelope you with deep characters, exquisite dialogue and great acting. Such is evident in ‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age.’ The relationship between Queen Elizabeth I(Blanchett) and Sir Walter Raleigh(Owen) is a classic story of forlorn love. A story told again and again as the epitome of duty to country over self. The Golden Age is more than just a love story though. It is the story of a fight for survival, a fight to keep England alive.

Set in the late 16th century, during a period of religious unrest between the power-hungry nations of Europe, The Golden Age begins as a story of a beloved queen. Elizabeth, lacking child, is expected to marry and produce an heir. Meanwhile, forces near and far align against her, each looking to further their fortunes and territories. (more…)

Dan in Real Life Poster

Well blended humor(like, laughing in your seat funny) and romance is hard to come by. There are the classics, like Pretty Woman and You’ve Got Mail, but it is refreshing to see the ‘romantic comedy’ genre still has the goods. Dan In Real Life is about Dan Burns(Carell) and his awkward reentry into the dating scene 4 years after his wife died. Dan, the model father, is left to raise his three daughters; Lilly(Lawston), Cara(Robertson) and Jane(Pill) alone. While his daughters are off at school, Dan’s job is a non-fiction writer and help columnist on the verge of syndication. (more…)

Welcome to the new filmbites.net.

This is my little sanctuary where I can post my musings about movies I see. I usually see 2 movies a week in the theaters. I try to see them opening weekend, but sometimes I’ll miss one. There will probably be 2 reviews posted per week.

Also, there will be weekly drink recipes posted. For the foreseeable future, they will be alcoholic drinks, but as soon as I run out of those, I’ll switch to more wholesome varieties. I may post food recipes as well, but that may be a little ways off.

I’ve added a section for ‘Food Reviews.’ These will be restaurant reviews which may be authored by someone more well versed in the intricacies of cuisine. We’ll see.
